Oblivion Rebuild

I've already played Oblivion through once, but I felt like something was missing. Two things actually: one is that this game really deserves more than one playthrough. The other is that because of the auto-levelling of monsters, you never get to have one of my favorite RPG experiences: levelling high enough that you are the master of all you survey and can destroy any petty mortals that happen to cross your path.

On top of that, there are a lot of mods out there, with a lot of annoyances fixed and so on.

So, at some point, I'd like to play Oblivion again with a bunch of mods installed, and actually do every side quest I can find and so on like that. There's so much to do here that I can't realistically do all the required research in one session, so I'm keeping here a list of the mods I'd like to install.

Many props to the helpful people in my questions thread.

The List

  • The Big One: FCOM.

Installation

The vast majority of what I did was straight out of
TESIV:POSItive FCOM Installation Guide, and the various things it links to.

Since Wrye Bash is required for FCOM anyways, and BAIN is part of Wrye Bash, I went for the BAIN+OBMM method listed at
TESIV:POSItive Preparing for Mods.

Per that document, installed many tools, and several Wrye Bash plugins; just did everything there, including most of the optional stuff.

Tweaks & Postinstall

Various personalization of C:\Program Files (x86)\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion\Data\Ini\Enhanced Economy.ini

Various personalization of C:\Program Files (x86)\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion\Data\RealisticLevelling.ini

Various personalization of C:\Program Files (x86)\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion\Data\Ini\Enhanced Hotkeys.ini

Tweaking of Streamline via ctrl+Home, and lowering of
uGridDistantCount in Oblivion.ini to 20 or less.

Enter "startquest paperchase" into the console to activate a LAME spell quest (which actually starts at J'shivrizza in Skingrad)

BAIN Packages For You

As a small "Thank You!" to the Oblivion community, I've uploaded all
the BAIN-compatible packages I'm now using, many of which were not
(and in some cases (MaleBodyReplacerV4 I'm looking at you!) very
not BAIN compatible) to my dropbox space for people to download;
this should be a lot easier to deal with than the current situation.

In particular, all you should have to do to install FCOM is:

  • Get all of the packages below that start with a 4-digit number
  • Use the Installers tab in Wrye Bash to install them in the order of the numbers (official DLC goes in the 0400 range)
  • Pick the actual mods you want where choices exist (like with Fran's)
  • Right-click on the Bashed Patch and rebuild, using the selections explained in the main FCOM thread (search for "rebuild patch")

And that should really be it, which is about as simple as it gets as far as I know. You'll want to drop some things below if you don't have any of the official DLC.

The Actual BAINs

I don't own these, I didn't make them, in most cases I didn't even
re-organize them, and I have no permission to post them. If one of
these is yours and you want me to take them down,
feel free to send me an email.
The goal was simply to help others avoid the huge hassle involved in
getting them all working properly in Wrye Bash.
